Dampeners are small but present in the rule book


 


 


You might be wondering what possible questions could there be about the placement of a simple dampener, the little, and often ignored, rubber object that reduces your string vibrations. Well they have rules and can't be placed wherever you want. First let's look at the rule:


“may only be placed outside the pattern of the crossed strings”

(Rule 4, case 3, of the ATP rulebook)


What does this mean? Well here are some examples with some of the most common and the most different ways you can place it in your racket:
